General Treatments

General dentistry treatments involve diagnosis, treatment procedures, and maintenance of general conditions, disorders, and diseases affecting the teeth, gums, and jaw. Prevention and gum care are a fundamental part of general dentistry, as is diagnosing and treating problems before they grow to be painful and often expensive. Keeping up with oral health is vital to overall health, and it can also significantly reduce the amount of money that will need to be spent on dental treatment later in life to keep your smile feeling good and functioning well.

We can develop a comprehensive treatment plan to help you achieve and maintain your optimal oral health, including restorative and cosmetic procedures in addition to “general dentistry treatments.”

Restorative Dentistry

Dental Implants

Things that we take for granted with natural teeth – such as eating, talking, smiling, and laughing – can all become easier again with restorative dentistry. Dr. Chittajallu and our team at Southwest Smiles can determine the best of several restorative dental treatment options available to patients whose smiles need a second chance, from natural looking fillings and porcelain crowns to dental implant restorations and dentures. Also, dental implants are effective in stabilizing dentures to fit better, feel better, look better, and chew better. We can combine multiple restorative procedures to fit your individual oral health needs and desires for your smile.

Restorative Dental Treatments

  • Tooth-Colored Dental Fillings
  • Porcelain Crowns & Fixed Bridges
  • ONE-VISIT Crowns with CEREC® Technology (No Messy Impressions!)
  • Endodontics (Root Canal Therapy)
  • Dental Implant Restorations
  • Dentures & Removable Partial Dentures

What Makes ONE-VISIT Crowns Possible?

CEREC One visit crowns

With CEREC® technology, we can help you maintain and improve your smile more conveniently than ever before. This high-tech system allows us to provide crowns, inlays, onlays, and veneers completed and placed in just ONE office visit! CEREC enables us to restore teeth using a strong ceramic that matches the natural color of your other healthy teeth. Using a special camera, we take an optical image of the tooth to be repaired. We then digitally design the restoration, working from the image. The computer-aided manufacturing that follows is extremely precise, ensuring a terrific fit when we bond the newly milled restoration to the tooth—all in the same visit! As an added bonus, this one-visit digital process eliminates the need for messy impressions and temporary crowns! Come in and see what a difference this technology can make in your dental care and smile.

Cosmetic Dentistry

A more beautiful smile can make life more beautiful. Studies have shown that a healthy and attractive smile can raise self-esteem, increase confidence, improve your personal as well as your professional life, and help you make better first impressions on others. Sometimes it doesn’t take much treatment for you to feel MUCH better about your smile, and there are a variety of subtle yet noticeable ways that we can enhance your smile. There are also more significant and dramatic treatment procedures (and combinations of procedures), often called “smile makeovers,” that can totally change the appearance of your smile to give you the smile of your dreams!

Veneers

While there is no true “specialist” association with cosmetic dentistry, there are a number of organizations with advanced training associated with cosmetic dentistry, and Dr. Chittajallu has an artistic eye and particular enjoyment for cosmetic treatments. Really, all dental treatment aimed to improve the appearance of a patient’s teeth, gum shape, and smile can be considered cosmetic in nature.

Cosmetic Dental Treatments

  • Tooth-Colored Fillings
  • Porcelain Crowns & Fixed Bridges
  • ONE-VISIT Crowns with CEREC® Technology (No Messy Impressions!)
  • Invisalign® Teeth Straightening
  • Dazzling Porcelain Veneers

Periodontal Health (Gum Health)

Periodontal Health

According to MedlinePlus, a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health, about 80 percent of U.S. adults currently have some form of gum disease, ranging from gingivitis to serious periodontal disease. The prevalence of gum disease increases with age, because as we age, our teeth wear down, our gums naturally recede, teeth can become more sensitive, and medications can affect some oral changes. If your gums feel tender or sore, or if they look red and swollen, you may be at risk for gum disease. Other signs include bleeding and/or receding gums, pain or sensitivity in your teeth (and even loose teeth, caused by weakening gum fibers or bone loss), and persistent bad breath. If left untreated, gum disease can lead to tooth loss as well as various other health problems. More and more life-threatening illnesses are being linked to the presence of dental diseases, so please call us today so we can help protect your health.

Treatment for Gum Disease

The first thing to do is get a thorough dental evaluation with Dr. Chittajallu. If you have any degree of periodontal disease, she can help you. Gum disease used to require surgery more often than not. While surgery is still an option and sometimes needed, many cases are now treated with less invasive techniques first, such as deep dental cleanings, local antibiotics, and special mouth rinses. A healthy body needs a healthy mouth, and a healthy mouth needs healthy gums!

Oral Cancer Is Nothing to Smile About

Oral cancer is one of the most curable diseases when it is caught soon enough, so we screen for early detection of oral cancer. Digital panoramic x-rays help with this, as well, because they allow for Dr. Chittajallu to see possible tumors and other problems associated with the jaws, too.

Lakshmi Chittajallu

When Dr. Lakshmi Chittajallu moved to the United States, she had already attained her dental degree and practiced general dentistry in India. Though she had the option to renew her certification at a number of American dental schools, she decided to start from scratch so she could master dentistry the way it is taught and practiced in the U.S. In 1995, she earned her DDS degree from The Ohio State University, where she graduated in the top 10% of her class and received the Carl M. Boucher Award for Prosthodontics. Read More»
