Many patients get anxious about the dentist and wonder if treatments will hurt. This blog post is meant to ease any anxiety you may feel about the dental crown process.
What Is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped, custom-crafted cap of ceramic that fits over a natural tooth. The purpose of a dental crown is both restorative and cosmetic: to restore a tooth’s function and to improve its appearance.
Southwest Smiles utilizes dental crowns for many reasons, such as to cover teeth that are misshapen, discolored, chipped, cracked, or broken; to complete a bridge or dental implant; to support a tooth compromised by decay; and to reinforce a tooth after root canal therapy.
About the Dental Crown Procedure
At Southwest Smiles in Austin, TX, the process of getting a dental crown only takes one visit because of our office’s advanced CEREC® technology. CEREC stands for “Chairside Economic Restorations of Esthetic Ceramics”. Additionally, there’s no need for messy impressions or a temporary crown.
During your appointment, our team will use a special camera to take pictures of the tooth in need of a dental crown. With those images, we will design your restoration using special software so it fits precisely over your natural tooth and blends in seamlessly with the rest of your smile. Your crown is then custom-milled in our office. Once it’s finished, we’ll bond the crown to your tooth and ensure you are satisfied and comfortable with your restored smile!
Southwest Smiles strives to make every patient’s dental visit be as enjoyable, positive, and pain-free as possible. The dental crown process does not hurt thanks to our experienced team and our office’s advanced technology. And we make sure the fit and placement of each dental crown feels comfortable and natural.
